Universidad de Ciencias Medicas (UCIMED)
Universidad de Ciencias Medicas (UCIMED) is a medical school located at San Jose, Costa Rica. The school is known for teaching medicine and is recognized in the field nationally. UCIMED was originally founded in 1976 by surgeon and investigator Dr. Andres Vesalio Guzman Calleja with the name of UACA (Universidad Autonoma Centro Americana. However, in 1999 the medical school of UACA decided to become independent and thus changed its name to UCIMED. Three years after its name change in March 2003 the National System of Acreditation for Superior Educacion (SINAES) accredited the university for its teaching in medicine.

En 1980 un distinguido grupo de profesionales con amplia experiencia docente en los diferentes centros de educación superior del país, fundó el Collegium Fidélitas. Complimentadas satisfactoriamente las cláusulas de afiliación, el Colegio quedó incorporado a la Universidad Autónoma de Centro América (U.A.C.A) a partir del 21 de agosto del mismo año. La UACA fue la primera universidad privada fundada del país, según los requerimientos de la Ley No. 533 del 28 de Agosto de 1973.
